ProCure Treatment Centers Selects International Vendor to Equip Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma
(Bloomington, Ind.—January 8, 2007) ProCure Treatment Centers, Inc., which is developing a network of
cancer treatment centers across the United States to deliver FDA approved proton radiotherapy,
today announced it has selected Belgium-based IBA (Ion Beam Applications S.A.: Reuters
IOBAt.BR and Bloomberg IBAB.BB) to supply the proton therapy equipment, valued at
approximately $50 million, for its first private practice proton therapy center slated to begin
construction in early 2007 in Oklahoma City.
ProCure Treatment Centers has partnered with Radiation Medicine Associates and Radiation
Oncology Associates, two leading radiation oncology practices in Oklahoma City to bring proton
therapy, the most advanced form of external radiation therapy for treating cancer available today,
to Oklahoma where it was determined there was a significant need for increased availability of
the treatment. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Oklahoma with an estimated
18,500 new cases diagnosed every year.
“We are very excited by our partnership with ProCure, RMA and ROA,” said Pierre Mottet,
IBA’s chief executive officer. “Proton therapy is increasingly accepted as the next big advance
in cancer treatment using radiation. ProCure has developed a unique concept to make this new
technology available to community hospitals and private practices based on a smart financing
package and integrated approach. We expect that their concept will be key in providing access
to proton therapy for many hospitals, physicians and patients in the U.S.”
The four treatment room, 55,000 sq foot ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma Cityis scheduled for
completion in 2009. It will provide access to proton therapy for an additional 1,500 cancer
patients per year in the U.S.
“ProCure has a unique approach bringing this important technology into mainstream America,”
said Hadley Ford, CEO of ProCure. “We are excited to be working with IBA to help bring about
the vision of proton therapy for the patients of Oklahoma and other communities. It validates the
vision of Dr. William C. Goad who has championed the need for proton therapy in private
practice settings.”
Indiana-based ProCure Treatment Centers, Inc. was founded in 2005 by Dr. John Cameron, who
played a pivotal role in the creation of one of the nation’s first proton therapy treatment facilities,
the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute in Bloomington, Indiana. ProCure provides
management support and a proven model for the complete design, construction, operation and
maintenance of proton therapy treatment centers, in an effort to make proton therapy accessible
to everyone who would benefit from the treatment.
