The ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma City Reaches Major Milestone

(Oklahoma City—November 19, 2007) The Oklahoma ProCure Treatment Center announced the “topping off” of concrete at its proton beam therapy center located at the intersection of Memorial and MacArthur. The center is being developed in partnership with two private practice physician groups, Radiation Oncology Associates and Radiation Medicine Associates.

Additional cancer-care services will be provided by the surrounding INTEGRIS Cancer Institute of Oklahoma and their comprehensive Proton campus.

“The completion of pouring concrete marks a major milestone in the development of the four-room center,” said John Henderson, COO of ProCure Treatment Centers, Inc.

Construction workers poured 12,000 cubic yards of concrete in the construction of the 55,000-square-foot facility. The center broke ground on April 9 and was followed by record rainfall in Oklahoma City.

“The record rainfall presented significant challenges to meeting our tight schedule, but working with ProCure’s project management team and many local subcontractors we were able to overcome weather-related obstacles,” said Allen Oller, project manager for Linbeck. “It was a great example of teamwork and the highly-skilled subcontractors in Oklahoma City.”

Despite the weather, the project remains on time and on budget.

“Building a proton therapy center is a highly complex project,” said Stan Hupfeld, CEO of INTEGRIS Health. “Having experienced partners helps ensure that the project will remain on time and on budget. This relationship also allows us to focus on developing the many other cancer services that will make up the entire INTEGRIS Cancer Institute of Oklahoma.”

The Oklahoma ProCure Treatment Center is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2009.

“Maintaining the aggressive timeline is very important as many patients in Oklahoma will benefit from this treatment modality,” said Dr. William C. Goad, a radiation oncologist with Radiation Medicine Associates.

In February 2008, equipment will arrive for installation from Belgium-based IBA. Jean-Marc Andral, president of IBA Advanced Radio Therapy, said the company was aware of weather-related challenges, but also of the experience and expertise of the construction team.

“We maintained our aggressive manufacturing and testing process in order to meet a record 10 month time from groundbreaking to equipment installation,” Andrel said.

Said Henderson, “Intensive planning, project management and communication that started well in advance of groundbreaking kept everyone on the same page and brought the project closer to fruition.”
